Kyajo Ri is a wonderful mountain for those looking to progress their Alpine Mountaineering Skills. Situated in the Khumbu region, climbing this mountain offers a real experience of an Alpine Expedition. You will spend up to 5 nights in tented camp as you make your way up the beautiful secluded valley. The hike up to Base Camp is over interesting mixed terrain, and will feel quite challenging when combined with the high altitude. But you are rewarded with a stunning Cwm of towering mountains and camp will be set up next to a freshwater stream.

On day 2, you will head up the valley towards an obvious Col. To make it up to High Camp you will negotiate scree and rocks/boulders over steep terrain to reach the Col. At this point you will again be rewarded with another stunning valley and the summit of Kyajo Ri will be in sight!

After a well-deserved rest day, you will begin your final ascent to Advance High Camp. Again, there is another challenging scramble up to the final Col which is a mix of large rocks and scree. The setting for Advance High Camp is just perfect. Right next to a lake (generally frozen) you will have amazing glacial views and full sight of Kyajo Ri and the route you will take to ascend this technical mountain.

On summit day, you will start around 2am, and make your way around the frozen lake and experience breath-taking views of the glacier as you move over this in the dark (generally with crampons). You will experience a challenging Grade 1 scramble over rocks by head-torch to reach the South East Col before daylight and this is where the real climbing begins! Crampons on, and a good single technical ice axe (suitable for Scottish Grade 2) you will begin to ascend steep snow and ice using a jumar on a line fixed by your Sherpa. You will meet some demanding climbing up a rock wall which can be iced up. This section requires some technical climbing skill and you will use your ice axe in the rock to climb this section successfully. The route to the summit can feel extremely steep and exposed at times (between 60 and 70 degrees), where you are required to front point and use your ice axe for long periods of time, so good physical fitness and determination are required to meet the demands of this beautiful mountain.

Once at the top you are rewarded with the most amazing panoramic views across the whole of the Khumbu. The descent will be a number of abseils, and technical down climbing through rock, and snow in icy conditions, but you are always rewarded by the sweet hot tea waiting to reward you at camp. A truly exhilarating day that will leave you exhausted but very happy. A great challenging experience for the aspiring Alpine Mountaineer!

Climbing Seasons
We do have two best seasons to attempt this trek/climbing to Kyajo Ri. We always suggest you to plan this trip at one of the best month for best weather and excellent trip experience.

Spring: - (March, April, May) - Best warmest time to attempt Kyaro Ri climbing. Rhododendron flowers in bloom- excellent trails and clear skies, best visibility. Good Temperature, warmest weather of the year.

Autumn:- (Mid September, October and November) - Excellent trails, clear blue skies, best visibility. Best Recommended time to attempt this Kyajo Ri Climbing

Winter Months:- (December, January and February) are also good, but it’s obviously colder. You have to be prepared for this. Summit to the Top is Pretty Cold.

Summer: - Monsoon, so rain and visibility can be a big issue (From Mid June, July and August). We do not suggest you this time for the climbing at this time.

Mountain Weather
The weather conditions in the mountains are notoriously difficult to predict. During the day it can be nice and warm and the nights are generally always cooler. The weather you will experience at Kyajo Ri is simply extreme and rather unpredictable so it is best to be prepared for all eventualities. While at climbing to Kyajo Ri, temperature could fall into negative 10 to 18 degree celsius easily so you have to be prepared for this.

However, above given chats of temperature are the expected but temperature can be different as per the everyday weather conditions of the mountain so it is unpredictable. Expect the unexpected!

Acclimatization
There is no way to prepare for altitude other than to spend time at altitude. Being in very good physical condition will help ameliorate some of the exhaustion that people often feel, but it will not prevent altitude caused medical problems such as Acute Mountain Sickness. This itinerary was designed with a high degree of awareness of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) in mind and to ensure a comfortable and safe adventure trek in the Himalayas. Staying well hydrated and getting plenty of rest may help.

Travel Insurance & Vaccination
You must obtain personal travel insurance to join us for our Himalayan trips. You must be having a travel insurance, which must cover helicopter evacuation, trip cancellation and medical expenses. And it is suggested that you buy your insurance policy from you homeland country before travelling, as it is difficult buying local travel insurance policy at Nepal. Vaccination is generally requested to plan to your trip to Nepal but it is not a must to have thing to come, but highly suggested. Your doctor will have the information of vaccination you would require to the country you will be travelling. Hepatitis A, Japanese Encephalitis, Polio, Rabies, Tetanus, Typhoid and Malaria etc. are the recommended vaccination for travel Nepal.
