Mt. Kailash, standing at the height of 6638m/21778ft at Trans Himalaya in Tibet, popularly known to be the abode of Lord Shiva is considered as one of the best pilgrimage trip/ Yatra for the Hindus and Buddhist all over the world. Mainly, Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and Bon (A religion which predates Buddhism in Tibet) consider Mt. Kailash as the most sacred place.

Hindu believe that Lord Shiva, along with his wife Parvati resides at Mt. Kailash in a state of meditation. In Buddhism, it is a belief that Kailash is where the Buddha representing supreme bliss, and resides.

Jains have a great belief that Kailash is the first Jain Tirthankara attained Nirvana and Bon believe that it is a region of the spiritual power. Mansarovar Lake and Rakshas Tal (Lake), are located at the base of Mount Kailash. Mansarovar Lake situated at an altitude of 14950ft is considered the highest freshwater body in the world. In full moon night, Mansarovar lake looks absolutely stunning.

Mansarovar Lake is considering as holy Lake, and pilgrimage take holy dip in the lake and it is believed that it washes your sins and brings salvation to them.

Mt. Kailash Mansarovar Kora/ Parikarma/ Yatra:
Mt. Kailash Kora is about 53 Kms long, and it usually takes 3 full days to complete this. Starting point of the kora is Darchen at the altitude of 4675m/15334ft, and highest point of the kora is at Drolma- la at the altitude of 5630m/18466ft. This kora is the most difficult yatra of this trip. Kailash kora is made in a clockwise direction by Hindus and Buddhist but counterclockwise by the Jain and Bon religions.

Note: For Hindus, Mount Kailash as a throne of Lord Shiva, the great Tirtha and the ultimate pilgrimage site on earth.

Itinerary

Day 01 Kathmandu to Kyurung 
Altitude: 2,800m/9,187ft
Distance: 177km, 6 - 7 hours drive
Meals: Breakfast

We begin our drive to Kerung very early in the morning. We need to drive 154km to reach Rasuwagadi. From here we drive for an additional 23 km to reach Kerung. Since we pass through Langtang National Park, we are required to deal with a number of check-posts. Overnight stay in Kerung.

Day 02 Rest day in Kyirung to acclimatize
Altitude: 2,800m/9,187ft
Accommodation: Guest House
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

After breakfast we will take a small walk around Kyirung village. Spending an extra day in Kerung will help us acclimatize to the high altitude, thus preparing us for the journey ahead. Overnight at the same guesthouse.

Day 03 Kyirung to Tingri 
Altitude: 4,348 m/ 14261ft 
Distance: 300km 6 - 7 hours drive
Meals: Breakfast

Early in the morning drive from Kyurung to Tingri. On the way, you will enjoy the view beautiful border line and snow-capped mountain and evergreen forest. As you pass Tongla Pass (5100m) , you can appreciate the epic mountain vista of Himalayan range.Stay overnight in hotels in Tingri.

Day 04 Tingri to Ronbuk & Everest Base Camp

Distance: 70km
Meals: Breakfast

Today we drive to Rongbuk. We visit the Everest Base Camp (5,250m/17,220ft). On the way, we enjoy spectacular views of high mountains like Cho Oyu (8,201m/26,906ft), Shishapangma (8,013m/26,289ft) and, of course, the mighty Everest (8,848m/29,028ft) also known as Mt. Chomolongma in the Tibetan side. Today, we accomplish one of the major highlights of our trip, reaching the base camp of Mt. Everest. The base camp itself is dry and barren, but the view of Everest is more than compensating. Overnight at Ronbuk.

Day 05 Ronbuk to Saga
Altitude 4,600m/15088ft
Distance: 300km  5 - 6 hours drive
Meals: Breakfast

We leave Ronbuk for Saga after breakfast. We drive to Saga via Paigu-Tso Lake and cross over the Yarlung La pass. We reach Saga, a small Tibetan town around evening. Overnight in Saga.

Day 06 Saga to  Mansoravar
Altitude 4,505m/14776ft
Distance: 370km 6 - 7 hours drive
Meals: Breakfast

Today we see Mt. Kailash for the first time. We continue towards Lake Mansarover which holds religious significance for both Hindus and Buddhists. As per Hindu theology, Lake Mansarovar is a personification of purity, and one who drinks water from the lake is believed to go to the abode of Lord Shiva after death. Buddhists also associate the lake with the legendary lake known as Anavatapta in Sanskrit where Queen Maya is believed to have conceived Buddha. Overnight in Mansarovar.

Day 07 Explore Lake Manasarover then drive to Darchen
Altitude 4,660m/15284ft
Distance: 50km 1 hour drive
Meals: Breakfast

We take a Kora around the Manasarovar Lake which is a sacred circuit following the edge of the Lake Manasarovar which displays brilliant colors at the height of 4560m. After completing the kora, we head for Darchen which is located at the foot of the sacred Mt. Kailash. Overnight in Darchen.

Day 08 First day of Kora: hiking to Dira Puk Monastery
Altitude: 5,120m/16,799ft
Hiking: 5-6 hours 
Meals: Breakfast

Today, we begin our kora of Mt. Kailash. The first day out of Darchen involves a six-hour hike in a deep valley through walls of red rock. We continue across the plain to Shershong. We further cross a bridge leading to Chhuku Gompa high on the hill visible from the valley. The trail leads to Dirapuk from where we will have a stunning view of the north face of Mt. Kailash.  Overnight in Dirapuk.

Day 09 Second day of Kora: hike to Zutul-puk
Altitude: 4,790m/15,716ft
Hiking: 6-7 hours 
Meals: Breakfast

Today will be the most difficult section of our journey.  We climb Drolma-la Pass at 5,750m/19,910ft. The pass whose name literally means the pass of Tara is beautiful and is filled with five-colored praying flags. From Drolma-la Pass, we descend to Dzutul-puk. At Dzutul-puk, we come across the incredible Thugje Zinbu (Lake of Compassion) and a few ancient meditative caves. Overnight in Dzutul-puk.

Day 10 Kora ends, Drive to New Dongba
Altitude: 4,430m/14530ft
Hiking: 5-6 hours 
Meals: Breakfast

We cover around 10km distance and end our kora around Mt. Kailash today. After the completion of kora, we drive to Darchen. From Darchen we drive to New Dongba to spend the night. 

Day 11 New Dongba to Saga 
Altitude 4,600m/15088ft
Distance: 400km 6 - 7 hours drive
Meals: Breakfast

Today we drive to Saga. On the way, we enjoy spectacular views of high mountains and different valleys in the Tibetan side. Overnight at Saga.

Day 12 Drive from Saga to Kyurung
Altitude 4,600m/15088ft
Distance: 5 - 6 hours drive
Meals: Breakfast

We retrace our journey back to Kerung from Saga. Kerung is a border town where we will spend the night. Overnight at a hotel in Kerung.

Day 13 Drive from Kyurung to Kathmandu 
Altitude: 1350m/4428ft
Distance: 177km, 6 - 7 hours drive
Meals: Breakfast

We clear our customs in Kerung before driving back to Kathmandu. Overnight Hotel in Kathmandu.

Our Tour group:
This is our group based tour thus peoples from any countries can join us on this tour. We would mostly have a group of 8 to 20 peoples on this tour.

Your tour Guide is Tibetan Certified Guide. He is in good communicate English, knows the places you would visit and make a special look after throughout the trip.

Health & Altitude Problems
Traveling in Tibet involves high altitude and can be strenuous. Clients with heart and lung problems or blood diseases should consult their doctor before booking the trip. Very rare cases of altitude sickness have been reported. Simple headache; fever, loss of appetite or stomach disorders can happen before the acclimatization. Some advice: drink approx. 3 liters of water per day, do not strain yourself, move slowly, breathe deeply and take regular rests.

Customs & Airport
There is no prohibition on still and video cameras, tape recorders or radios as long as they are registered with a custom official. Printed matters considered unsuitable by the Chinese Government are prohibited, Customs regulations forbid the ex- port of art objects created prior to 1959 or souvenirs in amounts deemed to be excessive. There is only one airport in Tibet and only one international flight to Kathmandu, Nepal is in operation.

Clothing & Equipments:
From Oct. to March warm clothes are required due to cold and from April to September only light clothes will be enough. However, a jacket and a sweater are advised throughout the year as the weather may unexpectedly change at any time.

Meals & Accommodations:
This tour is based with bed (accommodation) and breakfast basis only thus you have to look after your lunch and evening meals by yourself. Even though, there are many Chinese/Tibetan restaurants throughout the tour, foods are very nice and you can have your choice of food with your own taste. Your accommodations will be provided a twin share room with attached bath throughout the tour.
