Traditional Marriage or Remarriage in Nepal

Divorce concept does not exist in traditional Hinduism. There is no specific divorce ritual or procedure outlined in Hindu scriptures. Traditionally, marriage was considered a sacred, lifelong commitment.

Marriage in Nepal is a significant social, spiritual, and cultural institution. It involves not only the union of a man and a woman but also the establishment of a bond between families. The elaborate rituals and ceremonies reflect the deep-rooted values and traditions of Nepalese society. A wedding is celebrated as a new beginning and a symbol of lifelong commitment.

Nepalese weddings are characterized by their unique customs and practices. Both families play a crucial role in the wedding rituals, and the celebration often involves a large gathering of friends, relatives, and neighbors. Music, priests, and other professionals contribute to the grandeur of the occasion.

Weddings in Nepal are a testament to the enduring nature of marital bonds in Nepalese culture. They highlight the importance of family, community, and shared values. The newlyweds, surrounded by well-wishers, embark on their new life together, often envisioning a honeymoon that celebrates Nepalese traditions.

Journey Highlights:

• Engagement Ceremony: Once a suitable match is found, an engagement ceremony known as "Sagai (“Tika Talo) takes place. This ceremony involves the exchange of rings and gifts between the families of the bride and groom. It symbolizes the formal announcement and acceptance of the upcoming marriage.
• Pre-wedding Rituals: Several pre-wedding rituals are observed in Nepal. Some common rituals include the "Kel Ratri" or "Gufa Ratri" (a night where the bride and groom separately stay in seclusion), the "Mehendi" (henna application on the bride's hands and feet), and the "Swayambar" (a ceremony where the bride chooses the groom from a group of suitors).
• Wedding Ceremony: The wedding ceremony in Nepal is celebrated with great enthusiasm and involves a range of rituals. The ceremony is generally held at the bride's home or a community hall. It includes the exchange of garlands, conducting sacred rituals, and the blessing of the couple by elders. The couple usually takes seven rounds (pheras) around a sacred fire to symbolize their lifelong commitment.
• Post-wedding Rituals: After the wedding ceremony, various post-wedding rituals and traditions take place. These rituals may vary across different regions and ethnic groups in Nepal. Some common post-wedding rituals include the "Bidai" (farewell of the bride from her family), "Kanyadaan" (giving the bride away), and the "Griha Pravesh" (welcoming the bride to the groom's home).

Day 01 Arrival Kathmandu, Nepal

Today we will welcome you at the Tribhuvan International airport and transfer at Dwarika's Hotel, Kathmandu. You will get some refreshment time and briefing about your tour; then at the evening followed by the welcome dinner. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 02 Kathmandu | Wedding Preparation

With easy morning and breakfast, and meet the dress designer. We give the measurement for Nepalese traditional wedding dress. Daura Suruwal and Saari cholo are the traditional dresses for groom and bride respectively. After all preparation, we will start the tour of Kathmandu. Kathmandu Valley is probably one of the most interesting cultural valley with a superb blend of Hinduism and Buddhism. Moreover, the historic courtyards and palaces inside Kathmandu are artistically fascinating, which date back to ancient and medieval eras. Firstly, we will visit Swayambhunath (Nickname Monkey Temple), more than 1,500-year-old stupa (Buddhist shrine) and from here you can see the Kathmandu city view. Next, we visit Kathmandu Durbar Square which is an old Royal palace of Kathmandu where we can see a lot of temples built in different eras by different kings. The House of the Living Goddess (Kumari) manifests extremely fascinating architecture and walk in a freak street nearby reminds of Hippy era in Kathmandu. This evening is free. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 03 Marriage Ceremony day

Early in the morning preparation begins: Today we all are very busy for different rituals like Engagement Ceremony, Swayambar Ceremony, Wedding Ceremony, Kanyadaan, Bidaai (farewell of the bride from her family) & Griha Pravesh" (welcoming the bride to the groom's home). Evening we are celebrating the wedding dinner with all marriage ceremony participants.

Day 04 Honeymoon trip to Pokhara
Altitude: 830m/2722ft

Drive to Pokhara, an enchanting town in the foothills of magnificent Mt Fishtail (Machhapucchre). Relax at your hotel, inhale the clean mountain air, and enjoy one of the finest mountain panoramas in the world. Overnight in Pokhara.

Day 05 Explore in Pokhara

Meals: Breakfast

With easy morning and breakfast, we spend the rest of the day at leisure. Stroll through the maze of markets and stall of Pokhara, soak in the views of peaceful Lake Phewa at one of the many cafes or for the more adventurous, Pokhara is one of the best places in the world to try paragliding. Overnight in Pokhara.

Day 06 Drive to Chitwan National Park

Today after breakfast we take the scenic drive to Chitwan National Park, Nepal’s most famous wildlife reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After lunch, glide down the Rapti River by canoe taking in beautiful views and enjoy the unique eco system around the river and flood plains. Keep your camera ready for rhino, gharial and exotic birdlife while naturalists explain the world around the water. Later, enjoy sundowners on the riverbank. Overnight in Chitwan.

Day 07 Explore Jungle in Chitwan
Altitude: 250m/820ft
Accommodation: Resort in Chitwan
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Embark on a half-day jeep safari accompanied by an expert guide. Get up close to the likes of the endangered one-horned rhino, Bengal tiger, wild elephant, sloth bear and over 550 varieties of birds. Later this afternoon, led by your expert guide, take a walk through the dense jungle to catch a glimpse of endemic species in their natural habitat. Overnight in Chitwan.

Day 08 Drive back to Kathmandu

After breakfast, we leave the wildlife sanctuary behind and drive to Kathmandu. This evening we join for the farewell dinner. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 09 Departure from Kathmandu

After breakfast, you are transferred to Kathmandu and you have time to shop souvenirs or gifts for your family, friends, or relatives until your departure flight or commencing any extra trips or activities. If you are ready for departure, you'll be taken to the Tribhuvan International Airport(TIA) for your departure flight to your onward destination.

Best Season 
Nepal has five season temperate climate. Due to its location, landscape and power outages those seasons often dictate when the best time to visit.
Autumn: The peak tourist season is in the autumn between September to late November. This is just after the monsoon season so the air is dry and clear. This is perfect time for visiting Nepal if you are going trekking also.
Winter: December and January are cold winter months throughout Nepal. Though it doesn't snow in any of the main non-trekking cities in Nepal it does hit freezing.
Spring: February to April is Nepal's second busiest tourist season. The climate starts cold but in preceding months get increasingly warm. Flowers in the valleys begin to bloom and there's little rain. It does however get quite hazy so mountain views will be lessened.
Summer: May to June is the start of the pre-monsoon summer. It gets hot and humid with several showers on the hottest of days. Climate change has meant a lengthening of showers.
Summer (monsoon): June to late August is when the monsoon rains hit Nepal. Climate change again mean that the monsoon may be earlier or later than this. Rain are heavier and there's a risk of flooding in places. The sky is heavy with cloud but it also means blooming flowers and lush green valleys.

Nepal Visa/Entry Requirement 
Nepal visa can be obtained on arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu. Your passport needs to be valid for 6 months after your return dates and two passport-size photos with a light background. Nationals of SAARC countries and China do not need visa fee when visiting Nepal. As per this rule, Indian nationals do not require visa.

Money Matter
Always keep your encasement receipt while making foreign exchange payments or exchanging rupees from any foreign currency. You might need the receipt to exchange the money left over from your trip before you leave. Service providers such as hotels, travel agencies, and airlines accept foreign currency for payment of service provided. American Express, Master and Visa are widely accepted by the tourism service providers.  ATM machines are available in most of the cities but many local banks do not offer withdraw service to the foreign cards. You can contact some international banks such as Standard Chartered, Nabil Bank, SBI Bank and Everest Bank to withdraw money from ATM. 

Health Advice
No vaccinations are required. But it's wise to be inoculated against typhoid and hepatitis A. Depending on how long you plan to stay, you may also want to get vaccinations for rabies, meningitis and Japanese encephalitis. We recommend to carry mosquito repellents if you are visiting in summer can be wise or you can buy it in Kathmandu if you are travelling to the southern plain of Nepal.

People/Language/Time Difference/Currency
Nepal is a country of mixed settlements of various ethnic groups and castes. They welcome travelers with their best hospitality. Nepalese greet each other by saying "Namaste" joining both palms together meaning "I salute the divine in you". It is used both when people meet and depart. Nepali is the official language. Other Hindu dialects are spoken however English is widely spoken across the country.

The GMT of Nepal is +5:45 and currency used is Nepalese Rupees (NPR).

All meals in hotels include only breakfast. Day of your arrival, there is welcome cultural dinner hosted in typical and authentic Nepali restaurant. And in in Chitwan we provide full board meals.

Transportation 
In every trip, we use our private transport based on your itinerary. We provide car for 1-3 person, jeep or tourist van for up to 10 persons. 

Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is compulsory. You are required to purchase comprehensive travel insurance before travelling with us. Please ensure that you know exactly what you are covered for such as trip cancellation insurance, general medical expenses and hospitalization.

Non-refundable deposit of 20% (per person) is required to confirm a place on your selected trip.
