Annapurna region is Nepal's most popular trekking destination, especially for a beginner. This trek offers a great view of lowland villages, some wonderful close up of the sacred mountain Macchapuchre (Fishtail) and other high peaks. In some ways, the Annapurna Base Camp trek is a less-intense version of the Everest Base Camp trek. This is a moderate level trek and can be done in a shorter amount of time. The trek takes you deep into Annapurna massif to the foot of Annapurna South. Trekking starts from Nayapul with an easy walk meandering through villages and rhododendron forests. The route further ascends a river valley that gradually narrows before opening up into an amphitheater of mountains. Enjoy your stay in comfortable luxury lodges along with local lodges and experience the local Gurung culture.
Getting to the trailhead: A 25-minute flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, followed by a 2hours drive or an 8hours drive from Kathmandu.

The Langtang region, nestled between Himalayan glaciers and the Tibetan border, lies north of Kathmandu in central Nepal. Perfect for beginners and those with less time to spend in Nepal, Langtang offers the same beauty of longer Annapurna treks without the lengthy approach. Langtang valley trekking is popular as trekking to the valley of glaciers sheltered within the Langtang National Park. It is considered to be the third most popular trekking route in Nepal that offers the magnificent views of the snow-capped mountain, interesting Tamang culture and the accessibility from Kathmandu. The 2015 earthquake and subsequent landslide had an enormous effect on this region but aid and reconstruction have recently reopened this valley to trekking again. The trails and guesthouses have been rebuilt. This trek takes you through the forests to the high alpine meadows and yak pastures around Kyangjin Gumba (a Buddhist Monastery), with an optional day hike up to the top of Kyangjin Ri (peak).
Getting to the trailhead: A 7hours drive from Kathmandu
Best Time: Trek in the Langtang region is perfect during summer (Jun-Aug). Although the trek can be a bit wet, getting to Langtang during the month of August is one of the best trips as one gets to see and observe Janai Purnima, the Hindu festival in Gosaikunda Lake of the Langtang region.
If you want to trek in lower parts of Langtang then a trek is for all seasons.

Manaslu Circuit Trek joins the Annapurna region with the Manaslu region and you truly get the best of both. The Manaslu Circuit Trek has become more accessible since new lodges were built in 2010. The trek has all the great features you would expect from a classic Himalayan trek. The deep lush valleys at lower elevations, amazing views of 8000m peaks and a 5000m above pass crossing off-the-beaten trail.
Despite its rising popularity, the Manaslu Circuit still feels very remote and has fewer trekkers than the more established classic treks of Nepal.
Getting to the trailhead: An 8hours drive from Kathmandu
Best Time: The best time to trek Manaslu Circuit is in autumn (Sep-Nov) and spring (Mar-May).
#5 Upper Mustang Trek 16 Days - A lost Tibetan Kingdom

The valley of Upper Mustang Trek features a distinct landscape compared to almost all other treks in Nepal. With its many shades of brown and crumbling sandstone cliffs, this region lies in the desert rain shadow of the Himalaya. Mustang used to be its own Kingdom and its strong Tibetan influenced traditions make this a culturally very interesting trek. The trek starts from Jomsom and follows the Annapurna Range. This is indeed a very remote trek that takes you close to some of the ancient monasteries and caves. The terrain is dry and mountainous. This was just a slice of what mammoth Himalaya can offer. People who love camping, trekking and treading the mountains should never miss trekking along these popular Himalayan trek routes.
Getting to trailhead: You will need to take two connecting flights: Kathmandu to Pokhara (25mins) and Pokhara to Jomsom (20mins)
Best Time: Unlike most other trekking destinations in Nepal, the best time to trek to Mustang is in summer/monsoon (Jun-Aug). High mountains in the north of the region protect it against monsoon clouds making the region dry.
Stay during Your Trek: Most popular treks are along trails with lodges commonly known as Teahouse or Guesthouse. They are simple hostels that cater to trekkers. More remote treks that pass through areas where there are no villages or lodges require camping. All the above-mentioned treks involve more logistics and are more expensive since food, cooking fuel, tents have to be carried by porters.
While on Your Trekking: The scenery during your trek varies day by day and valley by valley. Depending on which trek you chose you will hike through dense rhododendron forests, terraced vegetable paddies along steep slopes, open pastures and snowfields and you will cross spectacular suspension bridges.
Guide & Porters: Nepali guides are qualified, trained and licensed by the Nepal government. All have many years' experience of guiding trekkers in Nepal and speak fluent English. Yet many travelers may not realize how a guide can make or break your trip. From safety to social and cultural benefits, there are many reasons to hire a guide rather than travel or trek on your own in Nepal. Additionally, they are first aid trained especially deal with the cases of Altitude Sickness. Your luggage will be transported by porters (1 porter between 2 people; carry weight 25kg).
Meals at Teahouse: You will find a similar set menu of dhal (lentil soup) bhat (steam rice), momos (dumpling), pasta, pizza, and other noodles dishes at almost all the teahouses. To avoid getting sick on the trek, it’s wise to order whatever is fresh. Most trekkers, guides and porters opt for dhal bhat as it is generally consistent, healthy and readily available wherever you go.
Organizing your Trek: You will need trekking permits to access any of these trek routes in Nepal. For the safety of trekkers, the government of Nepal does not allow single person trekking in any of the Himalaya regions. Thus, a minimum group of two people is required.
Wi-Fi & Electricity in Teahouse: Many teahouses in Nepal now have Wi-Fi and charging outlets available in the dining hall. Still, connections speed and availability is spotty and slow down the more people that are connected to it. Teahouses in the Solu Khumbu region (Namche Bazaar) and Annapurna region have better internet connections but don't expect too much elsewhere in Nepal.
Teahouses in Nepal are run on solar power, providing a renewable and clean way to keep the lights on. Sometimes the power needs to be conserved especially if it’s cloudy during the day. So expect some power outages. The electricity can also be disrupted by bad weather and wind.
Communication & Network: Good communication and networks are an absolute necessity for safety while trekking in the Himalaya. Some teahouses offer satellite or wire phone service which can also be used to communicate with your friends and family back home. Nevertheless, mobile communications are now available. Trekkers can also buy a new SIM card Ncell or NTC and use their own mobile phones to communicate.
Please note, for much of the great Himalayan trail, trekking through isolated mountain regions, there will be no receptions. Other areas like Everest and Annapurna, cell phone reception is widespread but unreliable and prone to issues.
