The currently explored Manaslu region is untouched and located in the west-central part of Nepal. Manalsu is the famous name of the mountain, with the height of 8,156m. In December 1998, the government of Nepal declared Manaslu as Manalsu Conservation Area to protect natural resources, cultural heritage and wildlife and to promote ecotourism for the livelihoods of the locals. The protected area covers 1,663 square kilometers (642 square miles) and is governed by the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) of Nepal.

Manaslu region provide the various trekking option to the travelers. Manaslu circuit trek, Manalsi Lower Eco Trek and Tsum Valley Trekking are some popular trekking route of this region as many tourists have listed them in their review. The 177 kilometres popular trekking route, skirts the Manaslu massif over the pass down to Annapurna. The Nepalese Government had allowed trekking of this circuit in 1991. The trekking trail follows an ancient salt-trading route along the Budhi Gandaki River.
