Why Cultural Exchange?
To promote respect and understanding for other cultures in a globalized world. Our culture is what shapes us, it shapes our behaviour and our identity. Culture is our way of living, it refers to the shared language, beliefs, values, norms, behaviours, and material objects that are passed down from one generation to the next. It is fundamental that nations as they interact they understand each other’s values and norms for the relationships to last. Cultural exchange also adds value to lives by inspiring new forms of artistic expression. Visitors create new networks and learn how to talk and interact with people from other cultures. In addition, cultural exchange program helps individuals to adjust and learn about new environments.
• RECOGNITION of the abundant diversity of cultures;
• RESPECT for the differences;
• ACKNOWLEDGING the validity of different cultural expressions and contributions;
• VALUING what other cultures offer;
• ENCOURAGING the contribution of diverse groups;
• EMPOWERING people to strengthen themselves and others to achieve their maximum potential by being critical of their own biases; and
• CELEBRATING rather than just tolerating the differences in order to bring about unity through diversity.

Firstly, we want to listen to your thoughts and plan your personalized itinerary accordingly. Our programs are varied, challenging and most of all, engaging. Since 2008, visiting students from all over the globe have provided energy and enthusiasm to build classrooms, plant trees, refurbish hospices and residences for youngsters and tutor young students in rural schools. However, no matter the project you choose, each AA Nepal program insures your visiting students develop an understanding of the history, culture and prospects of the country. And, as each AA itinerary is custom-designed, we are confident we can design a program which is just the right fit for your group.
To give an idea, a week Kathmandu base program which provides three or four days of service at one of the Kathmandu region’s more financially challenged schools. The physical work will consist of building, paving, cleaning, painting and other general refurbishment work, while the interaction comes in the form of class teaching of English, math or science, sharing story-telling or teaching a game new to the local students.
During the period, your students will explore the highlights such as Kathmandu Durbar Square, the hill top Swayambhunath Stupa (nick name Monkey Temple) and the dominating Buddhist stupa of Boudhanath or possibly the nearby Patan & Bhaktapur Durbar Squares. Our groups engage with local experts on social issues such as health, poverty, human trafficking as well as the positive effects of social entrepreneurship. Your time in Kathmandu can end with either a nearby day long trek along the hills of the Kathmandu valley, or, time permitting, a two day, one night hike which allows for sunrise vista of the Himalaya.
