Staying well hydrated and getting plenty of rest may help.

The maximum elevation of this trek will be reached at Island Summit at altitude of 6189m above sea level. Obviously this altitude range is high, but as we would be e range of altitude, and we are hiking from the 820m to this altitude range with enough days of hiking en route, it is not considered a high risk zone for AMS. Sudarson was an excellent guide. Very flexible with the itinerary, he added extra rest days when he thought I needed them before going higher (I may not have reached Kala Patthar without the rest) and his choice of guest houses were great. He also accommodated my requests to go up another pass not on the itinerary when we had an extra day free. Highly recommend as a guide! Thanks Advacned Adventures for this great trip.

Amazing & Best organized Tour Ever! Summit Island Peak

We did the organized trip to the summit of Island Peak with advanced adventures.

Every team member of the agency did their best job: Nittam our travel consultant (very responsive, best organized, professional support every time and on short notice), Prem our trekking guide (awesome guide, considerably, solicitously, best organized, best tour and attraction guide, wants always the best for his travel partners), M. Tek our Sherpa (carried our stuff, very friendly and helpfully, thanks a lot for the daily fruit plate) and Pema & Nema our climbing guides (high professional climbing guide and climbing guide assistant, thanks a lot for pushing to the summit and for taking care of us on the mountain).

Thanks a lot for that amazing trip!!!! Definitely recommended!!!

Chet Bhatta from Advanced Adventures was very professional, responsive, and to the point.

Ahmad Vahabi USA

I did Gokyo lake and Renjo pass in Dec 2017 with this company. Chet, with whom I corresponded a number of times, was very professional, responsive, and to the point. I had a great guide (Deepak). He was very responsible and caring. He also suggested going over the Ranjo pass, which was just great and became one of the highlights of my trip. My porter (whose name was also Deepak) came across as very nice and sweet. All together, I was very happy with my guide, porter, and the company. As a matter of fact, I am thinking to do another trekking with them. I would definitely recommend this company.

Top notch! Totally professional, from management, to guides, to porters

Sakkar Azizuddin

Top notch! Totally professional, from management, to guides, to porters, to the locations preparing our food, to handing us our key to our to our room when we arrived, to serving us with two hands our meal. I can't praise this organization enough to give you a sense of how truly well-run it is. Their planning is excellent.

We were a group of 21 people. Chet got us on the first two flights to Lukla on the day we were to leave. Once there, Hom, our main guide, took over and was joined by 4 assistant guides who managed our group impeccably--one guide in the front with the faster hikers, one guide at the tail with us slower folks, and two guides spread in over the middle, with Hom appearing up or down the line as needed.

We were quite spread out. They kept a sharp eye on us all. I was pegged fairly early on the trip as someone of need. I have MS, am 71, and I randomly tip over. I lose my balance. Twice the assistant guide Kalu broke my fall before I landed. I didn't even know he was nearby--he appeared from nowhere. One of these saves occurred over a yak-pie. I was sooooo appreciative!

My friend Carol was wanting to use the internet late one night and went to the dining room for a connection. There sitting around a long table were Hom and all the porters having a meeting. Carol said this must have been about 11:00 p.m..

The afternoon we were to make it to Everest Base Camp, by noon out bags had arrived and we had already checked in to our rooms. One would think the porters would have the afternoon off, but nope. Hom instructed them to help us to the Base. A young porter asked if he could carry my pack for me. I obliged. He took also one of my hiking poles to carry, then took my free hand and glided me across the tops of the boulders and rocks, choosing the route just as he would go. It was great fun. We flew! I travelled at least twice as fast as I normally do. He has long legs and I was completely under his good control. It was a hoot!

We all found the Nepali people to be completely disarming, gentle and unassuming. It was never about them, and always about our safety. They would open up about themselves if we asked. We learned that many had walked two days to come for the job. There are no motorcycles or bicycles; just porters carrying goods of all sorts, yaks, something looking like a yak but not exactly one, and on our last day, we saw a few horses.

Hiking to Everest Base Camp is an amazing journey; I'm ready do do it all over again. It is so vertical! I totally recommend Advanced Adventures as tour guides; you will love them, you will love your trip!

My trip to the Himalaya was fantastic. Thanks AA for making it Happen!

Ludek Kucera

My trip to the Himalaya was fantastic. Thanks AA for making it Happen!

I am a rather independent traveler. I chose Advanced Adventures (AA) for my trip to Himalaya (Jiri to Gokyo + Kala Patthar + Island Peak) because I wanted to walk from Jiri to Kala Patthar via Gokyo valley on my own and AA were offering a five day climbing trek to Island Peak that started and finished in Chukkung, while essentially all other traveling companies offer just a package that includes all the trek from Kathmandu to the summit and back.

However, I also asked Ms. Sadhana (travel consultant at A.A) to provide me with necessary permits. The way I was treated by the company was unbelievable and I can’t imagine how this could be made better. They waited me at the airport, even when my flight from Istanbul had a considerable delay, I was taken to the AA headquarters to get all necessary permit and discuss details of my itinerary, including the private part. Then they moved me to a pleasant yet inexpensive hotel in a calm place, but few steps from Thamel. They bought me a bus ticket to Jiri, took me to the bus station early morning the next day – if you know Kathmandu, you know that all this is a complicated task even for an experienced traveler.

But what was the best of all services was Pema Chosang Sherpa – my guide from Chukkung to the summit of the Island Peak. A very pleasant and kind man, but after climbing among others 3 times Mt. Everest and about 200 times Island Peak, he was the most experienced high mountain guide I could imagine.

Unfortunately, after spending 3 days in Gorak Shep (5200 m) and climbing twice Kala Patthar, I developed high altitude pulmonary edema in the Island Peak base camp (also 5200 m – how HAPE is unpredictable) and this was when I appreciated the services of Pema Chosang and AA most – Pema guided me to Chukkung and the agency arranged for a helicopter transport to a Kathmandu hospital the next morning – all in a highly professional way.

Thank you once more, Pema Chosang and Advanced Adventures. My final recommendation: if you plan to visit Khumbu and Mt. Everest area, ask Advanced Adventures to organize your trek – and if you think of climbing Island Peak or a similar peak, ask them for Pema Chosang as a guide.

We can say that booking a trek with Advanced Adventures was the best decision we ever made.

Mrs. Carole Lalande’ & Mr. Gaetan Martin- Canada

We can say that booking a trek with Advanced Adventures was the best decision we ever made.

We traveled in Nepal for the first time of our life, at 49 and 52 years old, on October 2013. Carole’s life dream was to trek to Everest Base Camp. So we looked up the internet and decided to book our trip with Advanced Adventures, a Nepal local company. We can say that it was the best decision we ever made. Chet, the executive director, was very patient and replied to all the e-mails and questions we had for him to prepare our trip.

When we arrived at the airport of Kathmandu, we were taken care of by the Advanced Adventures team. They came to get us at the airport to bring us at a very nice hotel. The meals were all included and we visited the city of Kathmandu the next day with a guide just for us. For dinner at night, Chet brought us to a restaurant for a welcome traditional meal.

But the real treat started on the second day. Our guide, Lok, came with us from the hotel to the airport to take the helicopter with us. We were lucky to have an helicopter instead of a plane he said. Probably we were lucky, but we found out during our trip that Advanced Adventures makes sure to give all the best to their clients. Our guide, Lok, was always taking care of us in all matters, from our security to our meals, teas, biscuits, lodges and we never had to pay anything more than the package we paid at the beginning. Our porter, Bisnu was also so wonderful to us. He would hurry to lodges with our heavy duffle bags, so he could come back to take our backpacks so we could climb more easily to our arrival point. We noticed during the trek that we were always getting a little more from Lok and Bisnu than  other clients were getting from their guides. When we came back to Kathmandu, we had a party dinner and when we asked Chet if we could bring with some friends we made on the trek, he said: ‘’Of course they can come’’!!!
We were so spoiled from Advanced Adventures that we recommend them to everybody who want to make sure they will get the best out of a trek in the Himalayas.

Thank you again to Chet, Lok and Bisnu who helped us realized this wonderful trip and accomplishment to reach the Everest Base Camp. They certainly have a nice place in our hearths for life.

I had a tremendous experience Everest Base Camp Trek & Island Peak Climbing Experience with Chet Bhatta and his team!

Miss. Mary Poer- USA

I booked with Advanced Adventures P. Ltd. Nepal, Kathmandu. I had a tremendous experience with Chet and many of his crew. Chet and his company is very conscious to employ locals so that it helps the peoples directly of Nepal. Going with a Nepalese company is definitely worth it.

My guide Sanjay had to do a bit of negotiating at the Lukla airport. Being a foreigner it made it so much more ensuring that things went well. I consider my guide and porter my friends after such a great trip.

We were able to talk about culture, history and so much more that is best expressed by those that live there. I continued on to tackle Island Peak which is more technical climbing. There Chet had arranged a Sherpa guide for me that was extremely experienced. He had three Everest summits and many more accomplishments. No matter what you may be seeking in the Everest region, Advanced Adventures will arrange for you anything you may want. It is such a wonderful company that is flexible and understanding of individual goals. Many other trekking companies have a cookie cutter mentality that tries to just “process” the clients through a regimented routine.

Enjoy your Advanced Adventures with Mr. Chet Prasad Bhatta’s company. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Special thanks to Jennifer Austin for helping me with the final hiccups and upload to youtube. It is about 21 minutes long. Enjoy and pass on to whoever you may think will appreciate it. Over the coming weekend I will be burning DVD’s. If you would like one you can sign up on a sheet that is in my mailbox in the workroom. When watching this maybe you want to consider donating to the Sherpa family fund. A link is available through the discovery channel website: https://youtu.be/sEBFYSnAuEw

Meals Plan: Full Board of Meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Tea/Coffee)
Overnight: Mt. Lodge in Chhukung

Today, we take early morning breakfast about 1:00 am, then pack our day pack with drinking water and some chocolate/ dry food for the day, and start the walk about 2:00 am in the morning. Early start is always important for the climb so we could have extra time/ hours for the day in case of bad weather or for health and safety requirement. Practically, the weather at Island Peak Top gets bad (Windy mostly) at afternoon so early ascent is safe. The first hour of the trek will be via the rock gully. This is not difficult but there are several short rock steps to climb before you emerge on the right side of the gully. The route then follows a ridgeline where you will use your climbing boots and crampons now, which leads to an exhilarating and exposed traverse onto the snout of the summit glacier. You will need to rope up for the glacier as it contains several crevasses but it leads without difficulty with support of your climbing guide, to a 100m (330ft) snow and ice slope (40-45 Degree) on which your climbing guide will fix a rope for safety climb. From the top of this slope, 3 rope lengths along a sharp summit ridge lead to the top of Island Peak.

Island Peak summit offers a great view of the Himalayas panorama and valleys. Summit view is spectacular. Our Guides, Trip & Safety
Because these hikes take you on the remote Himalayan region, it is very essential that you are accompanied with the very experienced and qualified & equipped leader for the safe and successful trip. We Advanced Adventures employee the local trek guide and stuff who are trained and qualified on the trip we worked on. Our guides are trained and licensed from Nepal Gov, certify from TAAN & Nepal Mountaineering Association. All of our leading Trekking and Climbing Guide are experience from last 8 to 10 years. We have train them specially for your trip, to cater the flexible needs of our peoples in the group joining from different countries, this double assure you that your trip is at the right and professional hands.

At every trip, there would be our one Trek leader and one assistance leader on each additional 2 peoples on the trek- this arrangement would ensure that even if any of our guide/ assistance guides get sick or if any travelers gets sick and need to be back or delay the days of walking, it would still works smoothly and there would not be any impact on our original trek plan. Also each two trekker would have one Sherpa helper for carrying your trekking bags.

Acclimatization
There is no way to prepare for altitude other than to spend time at altitude. Being in very good physical condition will help ameliorate some of the exhaustion that people often feel, but it will not prevent altitude caused medical problems such as Acute Mountain Sickness. This itinerary is designed with a high degree of awareness of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) in mind and to ensure a comfortable and safe adventure trek in the Himalayas.

However, AMS could affect to the peoples indifferently.

Travel Insurance & Vaccination
You must obtain personal travel insurance to join us for our Himalayan trips. You must be having a travel insurance which must cover helicopter evacuation, trip cancellation and medical expenses. And it is suggested that you buy your insurance policy from you homeland country before traveling as it is difficult buying local travel insurance policy for foreigners in Nepal.

Vaccination is required to plan to your trip to Nepal but it is not a must to have thing to come, but highly suggested. Your doctor will have the information of vaccination you would require to the country you will be traveling.

Hepatitis A, Japanese Encephalitis, Polio, Rabies, Tetanus, Typhoid and Malaria etc. are the recommended vaccination for traveling to Nepal.

Meals and Accommodations
While in Kathmandu, your accommodation is at 3 star deluxe hotel that comfort your stays in city and while in trek, your accommodation is at Mt. Lodge and Guest House which is clean and comfortable.

While on Island Peak Climb, you will be staying in Tented Camp (Two men tent) and we will cook meals for you on climbing section.
Our entire accommodation is at twin share unless stated but single supplement accommodation is also available on personal request at the additional cost of US$- 650.

In city, only breakfast is included on the offered trip itinerary but while in trek/climb full board of meals is included (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, and Tea- Coffee). We provide you food from the local tea- house/ Mt. Lodge from en route. Breakfast and dinner is to be provided from the same tea- house/ guest house we would overnight but lunch would be en route in between.

Foods provided are depends on the availability of the Mt. lodges we would be staying but in general, you can have Nepalese foods (Dal Bhat), Tibetan fried bread, various soups, Momo’s (steamed dumplings), potatoes, pastas and even a version of pizza! So, over all you have a different choice of food on trek.

Trekking & Climbing Seasons
We do have two best seasons to attempt this trek Gokyo Valley, EBC and Island Peak Climbing. We always suggest you to come at the right time of the year as far as possible to enjoy this trip at best weather condition.

Spring: - (March, April, May) - Best warmest time to trek/climb. Rhododendron flowers in bloom- excellent trails and clear skies, best visibility. Good Temperature, warmest weather of the year.

Autumn:- (Mid September, October and November) - Excellent trails, clear blue skies, best visibility. Best Time to Trek/climb

Winter Months: - (December, January and February) are also good, but it’s obviously colder. You have to be prepared for this. It is up to you to plan this trek/climb at this cold time or not.

Summer: - Monsoon, so rain and visibility can be a big issue (from Mid June, July and August). We do not suggest you this time for the trek/climb

Island Peak & EBC Trek:

Mr. Michael Edenborough
